The Bling Ring

The Bling Ring is a 2013 American crime film based on the Vanity Fair article "The Suspects Wore Louboutins" by Nancy Jo Sales, based of the events of a group of people nicknamed "The Bling Ring" in which a group of American young adults burgled celebrities for items including money, jewellery and clothing. The film follows the timeline of these burglaries, starting from the first robbery at Paris Hilton's house to the whole group being arrested and the start of their lives after the events.

The film stars Katie Chang as "ringleader" Rebecca Ahn with Israel Broussard, Emma Watson, Claire Julien and Taissa Farminga rounding out the supporting cast of the rest of the group.
The film had it's world premiere at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and was released nationwide in British cinemas 5th July.

The film deals with the theme of celebrity culture and the obsession young adults have with it. Most of the characters in the group are female with one male, but throughout the film is shown to have, stereotypically, female qualities. He is shown giving the girls fashion tips and walking around in high heels in private. In my opinion, this is shown as the character, Marc, being influenced by the group and the celebrities the group had robbed. These celebrities included Lindsay Lohan, Misha Barton, Audrina Partridge and Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom.

The film opened to mostly positive reviews from critics with a rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes of an average 6.3/10. The film eventually grossed more than $20 million in cinemas worldwide.

The film also explores the characters' backgrounds which includes underage drinking, partying and drugs - which appeals to a lot of young adults who are into that kind of scene and is a way for the group to make the money they steal disappear.
