Question 3.

As a low budget film, this film will more than likely not be mafe into a blockbuster and be supported by conglomerates such Marvel. However, this will most likely be categorised as a British Independent film, one that will most likely gain support to be published by film frstivals such as Sundance or FilmFest. Companies involved in the film may include Big Talks productions or Film 4.

However we have had the support from the production company "Silverscreen productions" and the distribution company.

We used these as our own, these are companies who support independent British films and mainly target those of student making or small projects. This was perfect for us as this was exactly how our project was revolved around. These companies are much more realistic for us and are based around our level of the film industry, that being not too advanced.

Question 1.

Conventions are elemnts in the filn that the audience will expect to see in the film, this is usuakly based of the genre of the film.

In the case of my film being an urban british movie dealing with the struggles of a young adult; the audience have a mental schema set up in accordance to the genre. Conventions may include family struggles, ambitions, drugs/violence/alcohol, they make expect Grime, rapping, urban music, stereotypes of young adults to be fulfilled, etc.

However, my film does support these conventions but may also challenge these conventions building something new for the audience.

Distribution idents, violence between characters,  establishing shots of the location but also establishing the main character of the movie, etc. Here some comparisons

Feedback from Mary about the rough cut editing

We aren't certain whether the video importing is working or not however, Mary has just very kindly suggested our group a few tips on how to improve our final editing process. Firstly, Mary was amazed over the music we'd chosen! She said how it sounds extremely strong and punchy which captures the audience in very well. She's also was quite impressed with the character organization, the sporty, casual and the princess which comes across very strongly. Mary also suggested that the 'opening the door part' could be on slow motion as well as the 'throwing the phone' scene because the audience could struggle spotting whatever is going on. Finally, we definitely  need to have a fade out at the end of the last shot to end everything.

Titile Change

The title of our film has been Bully, and this is because firstly the main character was meant to be a tough girl going around bullying people including her family and those in the community.

As we developed our film we decided to make her the victim of bullying from those around her rather than the one who is bullying others. We decided to do this as for a teenage audience, it is much easier to relate to and it creates a character that the audience will favour and have sympathy for, this is then keeping our target audience in mind. 

For this reason we have changed the title of our film to Bullied.

Feedback:

Firstly, the scene where the main character is opening her front door with a key and the scene where the same character also goes onto the laptop to check an email, telling her that she needs to send a video of her self dancing, to get into a dancing college that she wants to get into. Both these scenes need to be improved. 

Our teacher gave feedback telling us that the key scene is too long ands this is not necessary because it is no an essential part of the film. Also, she told us that the scene where the character is on the laptop, needs to be made clearer because it is quite blurry.

Improvements:

To make these problems better, we will cut down the scene where the main character is opening the door, and we may add another charter walking to fill in the space.

For the other scene that needs to be improved we will call a technician to help us make it look clearer.

Editing Process

Right now, we are up to the stage in editing where we are adding music.

The editing process was difficult because deciding what scenes and shots to use was hard and time consuming. Also, we noticed some mistakes in our work but this didn't really effect our film because we filmed most of our scenes many times so there was always alternatives.

Improvements:

We should improve our 'audience details' slide by adding more specific  information such as, the audience of our film would be teenagers who live in London and most likley girls because they go through more harder times with their siblings and peers so they can relate to our film.

We have preiviously learnt some themes that are used in teen movies and we tried to apply some of them to out film. Conflict with family/adults and conflict with friends are both common in teen movies and we explore these themes in our movie. We think that this will attract teenagers and help the audience to undrstand that our film is targeted to teenagers.

Our main character is a girl so our film is likely to atract female teens. However, our film may also atract older people because they may be going through similar problems with families etc, like our main character is.

Shot Practice Storyboard

This is our storyboard where we practiced different shots types and angle to help us with our final piece. There are some things that we done well and some things that we could improve on. In some of our shots, there is too much background shown and the subjects aren't always in the centre. Apart from that we have some interesting shots that have good angle, shot distances and shot types, such as, low angle, POV shots an wide shots.

Criticism on the shots helped us learn from our mistakes when we start filming our teen film. Criticism included too much space around the subject and lots of space within the shot that wasn't necessary.

Primary ideas for the final film

Instead of coming up with a completely new idea for our filming, we decided to take some inspiration from an existing film that is somewhat relevant to our lifestyle making it easy for us to take inspiration from. The film we decided to use is called Fish Tank. We decided to use Fish Tank especially because the film is based in a location that is easy for us to replicate. 

At one point we decided to take inspiration from the film Clueless. However, this is too difficult to take elements from as it's based in a sunny, be achy area of America which is very much different to the suburban area of London we are in and therefore too difficult to replicate compared to Fish Tank. Props are also much more difficult to replicate including the use of cars, alcohol, school lockers etc.

Fish Tank isn't a big blockbuster film like Clueless is therefore the need to not make it blockbuster worthy takes the pressure off our group. 

Fish Tank doesn't have many characters, as it mainly focuses on one character, it makes it much easier for our four-memeber group. We will all be able to act but also take part in filming and editing in a balanced way.

Ideas from Fish Tank
- One of the scenes included one of the first scenes when the main character, Mia, is seen going to the car park where other groups of girls are dancing. There is then confrontation and aggressiveness between them. We thought that Gizem and i would play as the girls who confront Mia, we will replicate the dance moves of the girls. Tee will be playing the role of Mia. 
- I also thought it'd be significant to establish all the different characters of the film especially those she has the most conflict with. In fish tank for example she has the most conflict with her mother and younger sister, this would be significant to establish in our film opening. This may be through arguments, physical violence of simply foul language towards each other but the point is to show that the family home is broken and isn't a typical or desired family environment.

Creative Common: Sound Practice

To learn how to use Creative Common to download music, we used a scene from Higher Learning that requires four different types of music to establish characters, emotions and locations. The video we used had no music and was only footage, therefore we relied on mise-en-scene and the characters themselves to determine the type of music to use in each scene. The media department of our college had made a tutorial video for us students, so we knew how to use Creative Commons properly keeping in mind with things like licensing and copyright issues. We searched for sounds and musics that can relate to different parts go the scene and we put it in place using Final cut pro. We had to use either SoundCloud, Jamendo or ccMixter. We think that this is a good piece of work for our first attempt.

The four different pieces of music we used included:

• Elevator music (we got this music from Jamendo)
  This music could be used to represent travelling and the music shows that something may be coming.

• Old school hip-hop/RnB music (music for this was for the first male character, we shoe this in relation to stereotypes and own knowledge of the music listened to in the time period, music was obtained from SoundCloud)
  This music creates an urban feeling and represents the old hiphop era.

• Calm relaxing, bubbly music (This was the female character, music was obtained from SoundCloud)
  This creates a calm feeling are represents a laid back character.

• Hard punk rock music (this music was used for the final male character, from the clothes he wore to the wallpapers he was posting on the walls to help with the possible music. Music for this character's scene was also taken from SoundCloud)
  This represents a rough, carefree character and sets a harsh feeling.
