Gizem Kirdagli - studying 3 teen movies that have different audiences.

The three teen movies I've looked at were; Mean girls, Simpsons and Inbetweeners. These films share things in common, such as the fact that all belong to a group of teenagers. However, they vary in terms of the different types of genres they all belong.

Here's the link to the trailer! The three teen movies  I've looked at were; Mean girls, Simpsons and Inbetweeners. These films share things in common, such as the fact that all belong to a group of teenagers. However, they vary in terms of the different types of genres they all belong.

Mean girls is one of the 3 films especially aimed at Teenagers that are girls in particular because of the plot of the film, influenced by the main characters. The setting/plot of this film is set in high school which brings the denotations across of the film being aimed at a young group of teenagers, specifically aimed at girls because the main characters act the role of 'femininity'. The use of colours of their clothing each represent the gender stereotype of the colour 'pink' representing 'women' and  just like 'blue' representing the 'boys'. Ironically though, the character of 'Katy' doesn't fit properly into the 'feminine' side of the film, she mostly attracts the both male and fe-male audience. This is because she just like the other main characters, does not potentially wear the colour pink. Therefore it is clear that the girly group of characters strongly appeal to the 'girly' teens in the society when the character of 'Katy' appeals to a wider audience other than just girls.

The second teen movie I've looked at was the 'Simpsons'. The Simpsons is a popular cartoon teen movie especially targeted at the both genders, boys and girls, women or men. The Simpsons targets a whole range of audiences. It can relate to children as they can relate to the characters of Bart and Lisa but also the whole family is targeted as "The Simpsons" family is just as fascinating as any other family. The whole family can relate to the show as the older parents could relate to the characters Marge the house-worker who tends to look after the children an does the essential cleaning up, and Homer, the over weighed drinker who doesn't tend to do much for the benefit of the family. Consequently, everybody from different targeted audiences could relate to the movie. However, the target audience for the ‘The Simpsons’ are initially the fan base of the younger groups of teens as 'Simpsons' was distributed to Channel 4 as a Cartoon and the cinemas in the cinemas in the past.

The third exciting movie I looked at was the 'Inbetweeners' movie from the four innocently troubled 18 year olds from south England and the adventurous moments they share together when going  on a holiday to Malia in Crete, just when they've finished College. Already, we can tell a relationship with the audience and the characters relating to  the whole of the teens now days as finishing school has become a matter to 'celebrate' and also is seen as a humongous part of 'freedom'. Though, Inbetweeners is a comedy that relates to the older teenagers of both genders females and males as it portrays 'freedom' after putting an end to the tedious moments of compulsory schooling. Inbetweeners consists of the four main characters which  are the same characters from the Tv series, a fan base was already created support the movie. Inbetweeners play a significant role of humorous scenes to attract the audience by humour. The movie certainly suggests a sociable group of teens, many people have the chance to relate to this movie and reminisce about their own experiences or perhaps they could even be reminded of somebody they know that shares the same act as one of the significant characters of the Inbetweeners teen movie.
