Genres and Conventions

Teen films is a film genre that targets teenagers and young adults and the plots are based upon the special interests of teenagers and situations that occur in their lives, like the coming of age, first love, teen angst, conflict with parents and many more. These are the reasons why the main viewers of these types of films are teenagers.

There are plenty of sub genres that come under teen movies, such as:

Crime
  • Drama
  • Crime
  • Family
  • Romance
  • Comedy
  • Coming of age
  • Musical
  • Horror/Thriller
  • Adventure
  • Fantasy
  • Friendship
  • Sci-fi














There are also conventional themes of teen movies that appear in these kind of films:

Freedom/Mobility

  • Rule Breaking
  • High school society and cliques
  • Teenagers vs society
  • Standard of beauty
